So... what is Trans Pirate Radio about?

It is about the trans experience, and it's about music.

One thing I learned a long time ago: Life has a soundtrack. Consider the music we listen to at work, or while commuting, or as we just go through the day. Music provides a rhythm to the day, provides additional meaning to the day. Music speaks to us in particular ways, ways that are personal to ourselves.

So... what happens when "ourselves" is trans? While each trans person's experience is unique, there are commonalities to the experiences of most trans people - the doubt and confusion and (for older generations, at least) shame of being different and maybe not understanding why, to the joy of discovering and exploring who we really are, to the persecution and precarity we face as trans people, to just the quirks of our daily lives.

This intersection of music and the trans experience is what Trans Pirate Radio is intended to explore. The blog will explore all sorts of genres of music; the first two posts involving music dipped into opera and musicals, respectively. The entries in this blog will either reflect on some aspect of the trans experience, and show some music that reflects that experience, or they will reflect on some piece of music, and explore how a trans person might experience this music differently than a cisgender person might experience it.
